"...Ramessar proved he possesses musicianship to die for" - KW Record

Guitarra Barroca etc.

Just wrapped up a fun programme with my longtime partners in crime, Matthew Lima (bass) & Graham Hargrove (percussion), at The Registry Theatre (our favourite venue)!
We played some Bach (BWV 995 & 998), 'La Catedral' by A. Barrios, Scarlatti duets with marimba, an arrangement of Arvo Pärt's 'Spiegel im Spiegel' for guitar, bowed vibes, crotales & bass, and a selection of other favorites by Ralph Towner, Pat Metheny.  Of course we couldn't resist throwing in some Lennon/McCartney with a little tribute to the late, great George Martin.

Josh Young Sings Andrew Lloyd Webber

Approx. 4 years ago, Josh and I were in the middle of previews for Jesus Christ Superstar at the Neil Simon Theatre on Broadway, after having enjoyed successful runs at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and La Jolla Playhouse.  We also had the opportunity to perform 'Heaven On Their Minds' for the NY Times feature on Tony Award Nominees (of which Josh was one).  It's a joy to reminisce and revisit some of those great tunes, as well as songs from Evita (which we also did in Stratford), Phantom, Cats, and more, at 54 Below, on Feb. 27th (9:30pm) and March 7th (7:00pm), together with Brian Lowdermilk.

Carole King comes to Beautiful!

What a beautiful surprise last night. Carole King came to the show, met us afterwards and told us stories about her music and life; conducting a studio orchestra at age 15, her various collaborations with other musical giants, and her lifelong experience of wearing her professional and personal "hats". She entertained questions, gave us some "not-notes" :) and then on the way out, ended with an incredible, impromptu masterclass. All clichés aside, what a wonderful privilege to sit at the feet of the master, and witness her incredible musicianship up close.

Hot Latin Nights

Had a blast playing with my buddy and fantastic percussionist Graham Hargrove, along with the Stratford Symphony Orchestra & William Rowson, conductor. We played Graham's wonderful arrangements of works by Piazzolla, Puccini, Cardoso & Gaspar Sanz for Marimba/Vibes, Guitar & Orchestra, and threw in some Scarlatti duet arrangements for fun! Graham also brought down the house with the world premiere of his concerto Skin & Bones for Orchestra and, well, bones.
The first time Graham and I played together, we were dressed in tights and covered in stage blood and mud, busking in 15th century Fuente Ovejuna at the Avon Theatre. 7 years later, we've cleaned up as nicely as we can :) and are wearing slightly more comfortable clothes, and we're still having the time of our lives making music together!
